This post will be to do with famous quotes. Quotations are a new interest to me now, especially as I now have an improved understanding of language. What I will be doing here is talking about some famous quotes from various people, past and present. I’ll be choosing some quotes that I feel mean something to me in relation to my autistic evolution whilst, at the same time, aiming to inspire hope in others on the spectrum. For at least one of them the author(s) may be unknown.

Please feel free to let me know in the comments section if any of them, or other ones not mentioned here, resonate with you.

“Stay positive. Better days are on their way.” -    Unknown

Despite the difficulties I was facing due to my condition, there was always confidence of an underlying improvement in me. For me these were a sign of better days on the way, and I like to think of this whenever I face difficult situations today.

An example of a situation for me here was on one occasion when I didn’t achieve particularly high grades in exams. They were hard to take at first. However, after short periods of time, I took some time to consider my options, including a different course.

Once I started resitting courses and doing different ones, and especially once the initial disappointments died down, I remained positive and determined to get a result I’d be happy with next time around. That I did,  following hard work along with determination, even if I wasn’t top of the class.

“Things are beautiful if you love them.”   -  Jean Anouilh

Those of us on the autistic spectrum have unique and special talents to offer to the world. Sometimes people have asked me to showcase my music(piano playing) skills, and shown their appreciation for them.  This reminds me of the quote below.

“Train your mind to see the good in every situation. ” - Paul Walker

My junior school was flexible enough to give me a chance in the school where I attended, once they were reassured that they were doing a good job following observations in class sessions.

One opportunity included me being chosen to play in an orchestra for part of a play which was musical.  For me, looking back, this was an example of a positive the school saw in my situation, after having learned of my musical talent.

There’s always light. If only we’re brave enough to see it.” - Amanda Gorman

One of the challenges I’ve experienced in times gone by, as a result of my autism, is during social situations, and how to form friendships, particularly during my mid to late teens. I sometimes wondered whether or not other people would understand me.  For me, this can be a call to accept us for who, and what we are, even if we’re seen to be different.

Having said the above, I always retained hope that I would make meaningful friendships in the years that followed, which I managed to do.  There’s always something positive in us, if only one is brave enough to try and see it.

Gas safety

At the time of writing this post, it is the summer time here in the UK, and the weather is about to warm up for us. This, of course, increases the likelihood of some of us having barbecues.  This post is science related, and science is one of my areas of interest. It is also […]
