In workplaces, “excellent communication skills” are often been mentioned in job specifications, but what does this really mean—especially from an autistic perspective? In this episode, I share my unique insights on the impact of diverse styles in professional settings.

Being an autistic individual, I reflect on how roles like Data entry and data processing allowed me to use my strengths in detail and precision, where minimal verbal and non-verbal interaction was needed. I explain how clear, direct communication can be just as valuable as social fluency, especially in structured, task-oriented environments.

This episode also explores how varied roles—from analytics to content creation, and coding can suit those who may thrive with independent work and straightforward communication. I aim to advocate for inclusivity, urging listeners to ask about communication expectations during interviews to find roles that align with their strengths.

Drawing from personal experience, I try to illustrate that communication isn’t about fitting a mould, but rather about bringing one's unique abilities to the table. I invites listeners to consider the importance of efficient, thoughtful interaction and to share their own workplace experiences. Ultimately, I highlight how diverse communication skills could potentially enrich team environments and foster inclusion.

Tune in to gain a fresh perspective on communication that values clarity and efficiency, empowering workplaces to celebrate a spectrum of strengths.
